Stopping the hourly chime on a Motile WR30M

My son has a cheap watch with WR30M on the front of it. The only branding on it is on the back which is EL-COSS RESIST, however searching online I think it may be a 'Motile' brand.

Anyway the problem I had was that it kept on chiming every hour on the hour.

To solve it I had to go through many possibilities eventually finding a successful one:

From the normal (time) mode, press the 'RESET' button and keep it depressed (this will display the alarm time), then also press in the 'MODE' button. All of the day LCD segments (in the big circle at the top) will toggle between all on to all off. All on means hourly chime is on. All off means the hourly chime is off.

Phew!

Sorry for the short delay in replying. Glad that it's of some help. I'm afraid I've not got the user guide myself. If you've got it by now maybe you could email it to me!

Thanks, I have a similar watch and it was driving me nuts - your fix worked like a charm!

Have you figured out how to get it off military time?

Military time? Is that the 24 hour mode? I'll have a play with it and try to sort it out.

This thread is two years old, but I found it while searching for the same thing. After a lot of playing with my watch, I found the answer.

Warning! There seem to be many watches calling themselves a WR30M, each with a different method of setting 24/12 hour time.

On mine, the change from 12hr to 24hr is simple (once you know!)
Just go to your usual time set mode (on mine, press "Mode" three times.)

Then move to the "Set hours" position (on mine, "Reset" cycles through Day of Week, Seconds, Minutes, Hours, Day of Month, Month, then repeats the cycle.)

Then press and hold the "Advance the unit" button (on mine, it's "Start")

You will see the numbers flash by: AM 1 to 12, then PM 1 to 12, then (No AM or PM sign) the numbers 1 to 24.

Nuff said? Hope it works for you.

Now all I need is to be able to switch from Month/Day to Day/Month.
The usually advised method (press Start and Reset at the same time) resets every setting back to zero on my watch, which is not usefull.

Thanks The chime was driving us crazy, especially at night. Now we don't have to leave the watch outside the bedroom when we go to sleep.

I've got a similar Shocking WR 30M cheap "fake" watch that has 2 flashing seconds numbers and the instructions (very brief) do not tell how to either change them or turn them off. Any ideas

Hundred thanks from Budapest. You saved my life.

A hundred thanks all the way from NZ. This worked on the $15 watch we bought for my son from the Warehouse, it has been driving us crazy...

FYI you can also turn the alarm on/off by holding down RESET and pushing the START button (upper right). We had been plagued by that alarm for months.

Really glad this information is still useful. Sadly the watch that was driving me mad enough to work this all out has disappeared long since. I welcome other tips for using this watch in the comments though.

Cheers,

Woody

Thank's for the Info Woody.
Just another nice thingfor the Motile WR30M.
If you do not like the colour of the light of the watch, you can simply change it, by remaining pressing the light button and you'll get various light modes some of them are really nice just release the light button when you see the one you like;-).

Thanks from Zürich, Switzerland, also!

I have a watch branded " TERNER WR30M ALARM CHRONO". Had lost the Instructions many years ago (if there were any at all!), it was bought on Princess Cruise trip for about $25.00! Have had batteries installed when necessary, and watchmaker had always set the time for me. He has now closed his business, so I knew when the battery went, I would be up for a new watch! Found a sheet of assorted button batteries in a $2 shop, so took a punt on it. Have spent hours on the Net trying find instructions to reset the time - finally found them in Alan Carpenter's reply, from November, 2011!

It's all on the Net - just takes a bit of searching!!

Still a valuable bit of information.

Earlier in this thread, someone left this link:

It solved all my problems with my ancient WR30M watch.

Thanks to the initial poster (Mike, 19 April 2013)!

Just to update for other searching on google.

This worked on a Huiying WR30M from Thailand.

You're a life saver for this information.

Ha!

Mine is labelled "HONHX WR-30M" and I got it for about a pound from some Shenzhen outfit on ebay. These instructions worked.

THANK YOU!!! Finally got rid of the hourly chime and figured out how to get time off military time. Who would have thought it a manual wouldn't have been all over the internet. Nothing I have found yet matches our Sportech WR30M watch. Thanks for starting this blog post and for all who contributed helpful info.

Thank you so much . I was looking for a solution to turn it back on !
My kind of job needs hourly reminder so it was instrumental to me.

THANK YOU! to Anonymous @ "14 September 2015 at 00:36" for his advice on turning off the alarm. (This worked for my Fox Sport WR30M watch.)

Thank-you! I've never been so grateful for the internet!

Our watch is also a WR30M Sport, but it also says Polit on it.

Since at least one other person was asking, I don't remember where I found this information, but here is how to change other settings on this watch:

CHANGE TIME/ALARM-
While looking at the time display with nothing blinking, press lower left button and keep pushing until time display flashes (first is stopwatch, then alarm, then time). Seconds flash first (if you are accidentally in alarm setting mode, hour will flash first) - press top right to change setting. Once you're done changing seconds press lower right button to change minutes. Once you're done changing minutes, press lower right to change hour (if you see H on the right, it will be military 24 hour setting. To see am/pm, keep pressing lower right while you're on the hour change function until you see an A. Press lower right when you are done with hour setting. Then the date flashes. Press upper right until you get to desired date then press lower right. Repeat for month. Repeat for day of the week. When you are completely done, press lower left.

To change alarm time,
While looking at the time display with nothing blinking, press lower left button and keep pushing until alarm display flashes (first is stopwatch, then alarm, then time). Hour flashes first (that's how you know if you're in the time setting vs alarm setting mode) - press top right to change setting. Press lower left when you reach desired hour. Then seconds flash. Press top right to change setting. Press lower left when you reach desired minutes. Press lower right when done setting alarm,

ALARM OFF/ON
While looking at time display with nothing flashing, press lower right button to look at alarm set time. then while pressing lower right, press top right to turn off/on alarm

STOPWATCH
While in time display mode, press lower left once to get to stopwatch. Top right to stop counting. Lower right to reset counter. Lower left to get out of stopwatch.
