Disabling 'OIL CHANGE' light on a Toyota Verso

This Blog is a place for me to record the little things I only need to do every now and then to fix various bits of technology. This will usually be the computer, but I'm going to start off with my car.

I've got a Toyota Corolla Verso, and it has got an annoying light that comes on to tell me when I've got to change the oil. It says 'OIL CHANGE' in big yellow letters. You need to reset the oil change 'system' to turn the light off and it will start the next count of 10,000 miles or so.

So this is how you turn the oil change light off (taken from page 148 of my owner's manual ('oil management system' section):
  1. Turn the engine on
  2. Press the trip meter reset button (the left hand button on the dash) until it displays the odometer (total number of miles the car has travelled since being bought.
  3. Turn the engine off
  4. Press and hold the trip meter button down
  5. Press the igniton button twice to put the car into IG-ON mode
  6. Keep the trip meter button pressed for about 5 seconds until the odometer indicates 000000 and the 'OIL CHANGE' light turns off
